Optical transmission
With HD-SDI, video transmission was possible up to about 200m using BNC cables. However, with the advent of 4K and the resulting 12G-SDI environment, even using 12G-SDI compatible BNC cables, it becomes difficult to extend the transmission distance to the same level due to external noise and signal attenuation issues.
Optical transmission is an ideal alternative to BNC cables because it requires a simple equipment configuration, eliminates video delay and image quality degradation, and enables long-distance transmission.
